Constructive tool

Concept of constructive tool

Constructive tools refers to the tools that are used for manipulating the information, constructing own knowledge using prior knowledge.  For instance, we use PowerPoint presentation to manipulate the topic on weather to connect on what we already.

Reflection of the constructive tool

As we delved into the concept of constructive tools, I had a revelation about the tools we are actively utilizing, like desktop publisher and Google Sites. It's fascinating to see how these tools not only aid in our tasks but also actively contribute to the constructive process, enabling us to crate, design, and collaborate effectively.

Integrating constructive tools in the classroom promotes active learning, collaboration and critical thinking among students. It allows them to construct their their own understanding of concepts and engage in hands-on, experiential learning experiences. Moreover, constructive tools accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences allowing students to approach tasks in ways that suit their strengths, whether visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or logical.
  • We can construct simulation lesson using PowerPoint in teaching and learning.
  • Desktop publishing program to organize and present the ideas
  • Create digital resources such as video tutorials, interactive worksheet, simulations (using PowerPoint, spreadsheet, windows movie maker/Camtasia)
  • Concept map
  • Social networking sites (blog/Facebook/twitter)

I have included video lesson and concept map as constructive tool to teach students.

1. Video lesson

In order to teach about wildlife, I prepared a video lesson using Camtasia. Instead of having students solely study theoretical concepts about various animal types and their sound production mechanisms, we can enhance their understanding by providing video lessons that allow them to listen to these sounds and observe firsthand how they are produced.
Thus, we can teach students even through video lesson.

For the video lesson I used Camtasia software .

1. Firstly, I chose the the topic 'wildlife' for the video lesson.

2. Secondly, I organized a folder to store the information.

3. Thirdly, I gathered the related information from the internet such as images of different species of wildlife, their sounds, and background music to make it engaging and stored in the folder.

4. Fourthly, I opened Camtasia and started adding images and sounds, each accompanied by their name and a brief description for better understanding.

5. Fifth, I used various animations and transition to the texts and images.

6. In the sixth, I adjusted the timing for the added features( images, sounds and description)

7. In the seventh, I added background music and adjusted accordingly.

8. Finally, after completing everything, I exported the video by clicking on 'produce and share' and titled "video lesson on wild life."

The link given below is the video lesson I created on 'wildlife'.

2. Concept map

  • Concept map is a diagram that shows the relationship between different ideas.
  • It allows users or students  to brainstorm and to visualize their understanding of relationships among a collection of concepts.
I have designed a concept map on the topic 'transportation' as this will help students understand the types of transportation and their examples in a simpler way than writing a long paragraph.

Let me share the steps on how to create concept map :
  1. Go to google
  2. Type Cmap and enter
  3. Click on Cmap cloud and log in
  4. click on 'create one'
  5. Fill up the details to create account
  6. Go to email then open the link to activate
  7. Go back to Cmap and click on new Cmap to create it.
  8. Choose the topic to create Cmap . For example - Transportation
  9. Brainstorm and gather information to put under the topic 'transportation.
  10. Choose the box and write the topic.
  11. pull out the arrow to above the box to add on sub points like -definition, types
  12. continue adding the sub points by pulling out the arrow - land transport, water transport, air transport etc.
  13. change the text features.
  14. after completing, click on to 'export to JPEG'
  15. Cmap
